Customer Success Stories

Zain Group (Now Airtel Africa): Distributed Revenue Assurance

Zain Group is a large multi-country mobile telecom carrier with operations spread across 22 countries in Middle East and Africa and serves around 65 million subscribers with annual revenue of nearly $7.5 billion.

As the company expanded geographically and introduced new services, the complexities of detecting revenue leakage multiplied. Each of its new properties had its own billing platforms, mediation systems and CRM systems sourced from different vendors.

Key Business Challenges

  • Need to efficiently manage large volumes of data while avoiding redundant
    data processing
  • Achieving proactive risk mitigation through institutionalized best practices
  • Ensuring consistency and completeness in reporting across the entire operation
  • Managing data integrity and regulatory compliance issues

To combat the challenges, the operator implemented a comprehensive integrated Revenue Assurance program in partnership with Connectiva. Post-deployment the results were were noticed almost immediately and the company witnessed significant improvement in its revenue cycle.

Key Benefits

  • Connectiva's solution was instrumental in enabling Zain to detect existing and potential leakage conditions and understand the revenue cycle better. Reduced leakages and proactive correction of errors eventually resulted in increased EBITDA for the customer
  • The powerful ETL and data management capabilities of Connectiva's solution helped Zain to use the same data sets for multiple analyses, and thereby have a better view of customers and processes
  • Zain has been benefitted by an across-the-board visibility into the financial performance of each regional operation by Connectiva's unique 'hub-and-spoke' deployment strategy
  • By optimizing the use of expensive hardware and personnel, the company reduced the cost of integration and maintenance of data interfaces within a very short time span

Bharti India (Airtel): Large Volume Data Management

Bharti offers mobile, landline and DTH services under the Airtel brand. Bharti Airtel, is Asia's leading integrated telecom services provider with operations in India and Sri Lanka built on leading edge technologies. As of 2009, Bharti Airtel had more than 100 Million subscribers and $3 Billion.

To combat enormous revenue leakage challenges, Bharti Airtel wanted a 10-year RA plan, which could scale up to support 100 million customers. The operator required a solution capable of processing very large volumes of data from all sources and every region in the country at a single central location.

Key Challenges

  • High growth rate
  • Prepaid market with high competition and churn
  • Complex roaming scenarios and complex interconnect settlement and content
    partner agreements
  • Regional and group business across India
  • Multiple vendors and multiple lines of businesses
  • 4B Records per day
  • Need to process every single xDR - No sampling
  • Strict performance SLAs
  • Traditional approaches to storage, processing, backup not applicable
  • Centralized and regional data collection policies

Connectiva Systems proposed a solution with minimum Total Cost of Ownership. • Since the deployment of the solution, the size of Bharti Airtel's RA organization has decreased by nearly 200%.
  • Over 75 KPIs along with automated alarms and alerts are available to the RA analysts
  • A web-based dashboard with corporate/group-wide KPIs is available to selected users, and they can access this from multiple locations

Videotron: Integrated Revenue Assurance & Fraud Management

Videotron, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Quebecor Media Inc, is an integrated communications company engaged in cable broadcasting, interactive multimedia development, high speed Internet access services, cable telephony and wireless telephone services.

Rapid evolution of its service offerings and customer base required the company to deploy an integrated enterprise risk management program based on established best practices.

The Need for an Integrated Revenue Management Program

  • Its Revenue Assurance and Fraud Management functions, traditionally operating as silos, were restricted to the cable line of business
  • Supporting these functions were disparate home grown software solutions that could not support the inherent transformation brought in by the 3G Commercial Rollout and service convergence plans
  • Adding to the challenges were data disparity and critical process complexities/ deficiencies on provisioning and credit checking

Why Connectiva?

  • Connectiva's unique solution offering common data collection, analysis, reporting and presentation framework for a unified RA & FMS solution
  • A future proof solution that enables the operator to handle varied service portfolio ranging from cable to wireless
  • Product flexibility allowing greater control to the end user
  • The lowest total cost of ownership over a five year time period amongst the competition
