Google Docs is a very useful word processor by Google. It is rapidly rising as a suitable replacement for Microsoft Word. They prevent the text from falling on the edges of the document and make it appear neat and clean. In order to manage them efficiently, you must know how to adjust or change them. There are two ways to change margins in Google Docs. One is by using the ‘Ruler’ and the other is through the ‘Page Setup’ setting.

I have explained both of them below. If you have a short document with a few paragraphs, then you should use the first method. But, if you are working on a long document, then I’d recommend using the second method.

1. Change Right & Left Margins In Google Docs

The first method to change margins in Google Docs is by adjusting them via the ‘ruler’ present above. It allows you to adjust only the left and right margins. If you also want to adjust the top and bottom one, then you should skip to the second method. If not, follow these steps:

Step-1: Visit Google Docs and open the document that you want to change the margins of. If you haven’t signed in to your Google account, you will have to do that first.

Step-2: Now take the cursor to the ruler present below the toolbar in Google Docs. If you can’t find it, click on View, and then click on ‘Ruler.’

Step-3: You will see two blue arrows (Triangles) on either sides of the document. You have to use them to control the margins. A blue rectangle is also present on the left side which the first line indent. It will adjust the first line of text, and works closely like a customizable tab key.

Step-4: Now choose the first line of the paragraph and then click and drag the blue rectangle. This will make the first line shift to the right. You can use the ruler at the top to measure the indent.
